An Brog is a pub on Oliver Plunkett street near the Grand Parade. It is another of Cork’s late night bars. An Brog is a favorite with a lot of people and you are likely to come across all sorts of people inside. There is usually a bouncer hanging about but he’s normally not too fussy about any sort of dress code. If you look legal you’re fine! An Brog has doubled if not tripled in size in recent times. As you walk in there are seats on the right and on the left as you go in. I think there is a bar to the left in that small area. If you walk up along there is another bar in front of you. Standing at that bar there are a few seats to the left but most of the action is to the right. This is the new part of An Brog. It adds a huge amount to the place. There is another bar off to the left and seating pretty much all around. There is ample dancing room and normally the dj hangs around in here somewhere. An Brog plays quite alternative music from punk to rock to god knows what else. The pints can be good and bad. If it’s very busy (which it can get) the pints tend to deteriorate.
The toilets are generally messy and can get unusable when it’s very busy. That was the case on the last visit. On a quieter night they are probably much better. An Brog is generally a fun pub to visit. It’s not a place i always head to but i do enjoy it when i go in. I could go on for a while describing it but i’ll cut it short today. Christmas is coming and all that! Most people have been in here at some stage but if you haven’t then hop along.
Toilet rating: 4/10
Pint rating: 6/10
Overall rating: 6/10
Final comment: An Brog is a place to head to for late night drinking. It’s probably one of the better establishments around.

An Brog is the best pub in Cork! I have spend half a year in Ireland for my placement and was at least twice a week in an brog. Nice music, fun people and lots of fun!!
Smells like a dirrrrrrtttttyyyyyy penis, pints tatse like dirrrrrrrttttyyyy penis juice -but I love it.
An Bròg is place you’ll either love or hate. Personnally I love it! Great place to go if you want a quiet pint after work during the week or a not so quiet drink later in the night!
A lot of talented Cork bands have started out gigging in An Bròg. It’s a great place to hear the best of what our the Real Capital has to offer!
the brog is def aplace you will either love or hate. i personally do love the place if i done feel like it i dont have to get dressed up. most people in there are good craic though you do get the odd person who can be a snob because you dont dress like an emo stupid kid. but thankfully they are far a few between. also depends what dj is on but when they play queen the dd time at about 1.45 its the funniest thing anyone can witness esp if your in the main bar. the pints can be mank too. the toilets aare horrible but if there is no bouncer about like in the toilets upstairs then the boys toilets are gen clean.
love the website by the way very good. UP CORK WOOOOOOO
This is written on one of the toilet doors upstairs and I think it sums up the brog…
“In crust we trust”
Its a dirty, stinking hole of place… but it has a certain allure. You just have to love it.
It is in all fairness ‘crusty’ and as soon as you walk in the door there is a certain aroma of bleach that’ll knock you off your feet.. but the music is good theres always talent on show the barmen are sooooo hot and you can be drunk and start singing like a lunatic bohemian rahpsody with your new found friends and the bouncers couldent give a toss ….legend of a place to drink
An brog. good pub. if you like rock music….good nights for you.
the brog!!!! wat can i say? love it! its like a home away 4m home. always no sum1 da staff and bouncers are legends. i’m in der every monday, wedneday and saturday and its soooooooooooo much fun. every1 is nice in der and u can have sum great fun dancing all nite. in fairness da toilets do suck and da pints can be terrible but do u rly care wen u can get 2.90 pints until 7! its da BEST pub in cork!
LONG LIVE AN BROG!!!! WOO HOO!!!!
how can i get tickets for the halloween fancy dress i wont be able to get to cork til tue ple reply…
I honestly LOVE An Brog and it *IS* my favourite pub. I like the music, the bands, the people there because it’s really easy to chat with them without any pressure, and it’s where I had most of my best parties. And the barmen are really nice too.
But now, there are some things that bug me.
- The price for a pint during the evening/night is now 5 euros. It can’t be said to be cheap anymore. Good thing there’s an atm not so far away from the pub.
- Keep an eye on your coat, and don’t let anything important in it, even if it’s near you. I and 4 other people I know got ours stolen, and in one case, one of the persons had left his wallet in it. Never had that problem in another pub before or after.
- Last point, don’t expect much help from the bouncers that work inside the pub or in the smoking area. I do know it’s not an easy job, but most of them are too busy flirting (especially the youngest ones) or chatting with friends to realise it in time when a drunkard is going too far. Nothing to say about those who work at the door, though, they do a good job and are really nice, especially when they start to recognize you.
So don’t get me wrong, I effin love that pub and it was kinda like a second home. But there are things that could be better.
