Situated just off the recent Ballincollig bypass lies Desmonds, otherwise known as The Ovens Bar. We stopped in here for a look on our way back from an eventful trip to Kerry. The pub enjoys a roadside location with plenty parking available outside. We walked in through a side entrance and noticed that most people were eating what looked to be very nice food. Seeing as we were only in for a drink we went around the front and walked into the bar. It is quite small with the bar counter straight ahead and seating available on the left. There is also a pool table here and this was being availed of. I waited at the bar to be served and had to wait a bit as there was nobody there for a while. When a lady appeared i ordered a glass of red wine and a 7up as i was driving. There is a television in the bar as well. There was a good few people eating hot food in the bar. The bar itself although comfortable isn’t a place that i would be rushing back to. It could certainly do with being modernised.
The gents toilets are out a door off the bar. They were very poorly lit when i went in and were not in the best of condition. The first part of the pub that we went into appeared to be a much nicer spot. I think it is a restaurant. I would go back and try out their cusine but woudn’t fancy heading into the bar again. It is a very convenient stop off if you are going to or coming from Kerry.
Toilet rating: 4/10
Overall rating: 6/10
Final Comment: As i said if i had been in the other section i am sure that i would have prefered that. Take a look for yourself.
