Fox and Hounds

Following a trip to The Fob and Gill we decided to head down to Ballyvolane and into The Fox and Hounds Bar. You will find this pub across the road from Dunnes Stores. It enjoys a roadside location and has extensive paking facilities at the back of the pub. We headed in through the back door. There was a good few people smoking here. We went inside and were suprised to see so many people inside. My first impression was that the place is very outdated. Apparently there was a golf classic on during the day and everyone was back in the pub afterwards. I ordered a pint of Murphy’s and some minerals. Service wasn’t with a smile if i am being honest. The pint of Murphy’s was another good one and went down nicely. We were lucky to find a seat but managed to squeeze in. When we were there a raffle was starting, to do with the golf.

I used the toilets and they were a could have done with being cleaned but were useable. There is another part of the bar at the front but i didn’t get to see it. Not a bad place to head for a pint to and appears to be popular. There was a good mixture of ages having a few drinks.

Toilet rating: 6/10
Pint rating: 7.5/10
Overall rating: 7/10

Final comment: I enjoyed the Fox and Hounds except the welcome at the bar wasn’t great. On the strength of it i would head back again.

Fob and Gill

The first Mayfield pub review was under taken yesterday when we visited The Fob and Gill pub. Another one of these pubs that i have passed so many times and wanted to head in. There is a good amount of parking available directly outside the pub. It is located next to a shopping area. It is a very big looking building from the outside. We went in and found seats in an alcove area. There was a big screen showing racing and there was two small tv’s behind the bar that were showing a soccer match and a snooker final. It is the first time that i have seen these in a pub and they looked good. I ordered a pint of Murphy’s and some minerals. The Murphy’s was a good quality pint. The pub itself is a good size and there was a good crowd of people inside when we headed in. There is a pool table available for use.

The toilets were fine when i used them. There appeared to be a good mixture of age groups frequenting this pub. If you are living in the area it is quite convenient and it is visible from the road so it may pick up passing trade. If you happen to be in the Mayfield area then this is a place available to you.

Toilet rating: 6.5/10
Pint rating: 7/10
Overall rating: 6.5/10

Final comment: Thats the Fob and Gill.

The Brook Inn

We were driving in the Glanmire area today and came upon The Brook Inn. We decided to head in and have a look. Its in the Sallybrook area. It is an impressive stone building from the outside. We got parking along side the pub As we were walking in there was a couple of lads outside the front enjoying a drink. It is a very big pub with plenty seating areas available. There was a good crowd of people out for a few drinks and there was also a good number of people enjoying food in the bar. The food looked very appetising but we had already had dinner so we passed. We found a nice area to sit and i ordered the drinks. The girls had minerals and i got a pint of Murphy’s. The man serving behind the bar was very pleasant. The pint was a good one and i had no compaints. A premiership match was being showed on a tv and they then showed the match on a big projected screen as well. There was quite a lot of memorabilia on the walls.

The toilets were clean but a bit outdated. The girls with me echoed this as well. The hand dryer didn’t work. It is a pub that is a good place to watch a match. There was quite a few children with their families there today. There was a good mixture of ages in the pub. I would head back again but wouldn’t mind going at night time or for a bite to eat. A decent pub.

Toilet rating: 6/10
Pint rating: 7.5/10
Overall rating: 7.5/10

Final comment: The Brook Inn is worth taking a visit. Head out and have a look.
