Following our trip to Henchy’s we made the trip upwards to Dillons cross and The Kerrymans bar and lounge. Parking is available at the road side. We took the option of going into the lounge. I was very impressed with this pub from the moment i stepped inside. It is a modern and comfortable pub that has quite a lot of appeal. Jen chose a seat just across from the bar in a small enclosed area. The bar staff were extremely friendly and we were served efficiently. I had the usual Murphy’s and Jen had a glass of diet 7up. I could hear that there was music on in the bar but didn’t go in to check it out although it sounded good. I really enjoyed the pint and decided to stay here for a second which is a real compliment to the pub. We watched the tv that was showing celebrity your a star. We got a good few laughs out of that!
There was a few other people in the lounge area while we were there. I checked out the gents toilet in the lounge and it is an all in one job! There is a urinal and a cubicle in a long and narrow toilet. It was in fairly good condition last night. Jen said that she would certainly come back here again for a drink and i would be in total agreement. This pub commands a good local trade i would say. If you are in the Dillons cross area this pub is worth checking out.

Final comment: The Kerrymans serve food during the day. A really nice pub.
Finally found the time to catch up on some pub reviews last night. We headed to St Lukes and Henchys bar. This is a pub that i have heard a lot of people talking about and in general all of it was positive. It is situated on the corner of a very busy road. Parking is limited outside and there is no car park available. We went in at about 21:45 last night and we walked in the door on the left as you look at the pub. As we went inside some guy said ’slainte’ to Jen and we walked past the bar and took a seat on the left. I was impressed with the interior and the character that this pub obviously has. I ordered a pint of Murphy’s and a glass of red wine at the bar and took in the new surroundings. I gave the girl behind the bar 10 euro and expected change. Instead she told me that i owed 30 cent more. I found this to be somewhat of a rip off to be brutally honest and should have questioned the pricing at the time. Normally a glass of wine would cost about 4 euro 50 and a pint anywhere up to 4 euro for stout. Thats only 8 euro 50. There was a good crowd in this part of the pub and for a Sunday night it was lively. The pint of Murphy’s was a nice pint and Jen said that the wine was enjoyable too. The red leather seats caught our eye!
I went and checked out the ‘lavatory’ in Henchys and it is small with two cubicles available and there was a smell even though the overall condition was fine. I didn’t get to check out the other part of the pub. I really enjoyed my trip here except for the fact of the overcharging in my opinion. I would say that it is very popular with local people in the area. For a pub thats full of charm and character then Henchys is a place to consider. It is a bit of a walk from the city center up a big hill but it is worth checking out.

Final comment: I don’t want to be too harsh on a very decent pub but does anyone else think this was expensive for these drinks or are these the prices that are now the norm.
Apologies for the lack of new reviews in the past few weeks. I have changed jobs and we are buying a house so spare time is very limited at the moment. I have a few in mind that i want to check out and that should be soon.
Cheers.

We were at a wedding last Saturday in Cork. The church was the beautiful Honan Chapel at UCC and the reception was at the Imperial hotel on the South Mall. We decided to go for a pre reception drink with another couple in Kudos bar at the recently built Clarion hotel. We sauntered into the bar and i was immediately impressed. It is a very modern, funky and extremely comfortable bar. It is very spacious and is over looking the river Lee. I ordered the drinks at the bar and they are a bit above the city avarage for a pint but the lady serving at the bar was very pleasant and provided service with a big smile. There was a big crowd in the bar watching a GAA match on the tv’s. The pint of Murphy’s that i had was a very good pint and i had another which was just as good. We didn’t stay in the main bar but instead decided to sit in the lobby area. We decided to get some sandwiches and we were served by a very polite man. The sandwiches were very tasty and we paid for them at a small bar in this area.
I didn’t check out the toilets but the ladies saw them and said they were in good condition. I was very impressed with my first visit to Kudos bar and to the Clarion hotel in general. I will most definately head back at some stage. You must check it out for yourself. If you want to contact the Clarion hotel phone: 0214224900.

Final comment: The Clarion hotel has built up an excellent reputation since it opened and from my visit, Kudos Bar lives up to expectations.
