I was up in Dublin for the weekend and had my first visit and stay at the Burlington hotel. The room was comfortable and it was an enjoyable stay. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night there and the service was quite slow. We went for a few drinks and managed to get seats in the Lobby Lounge. We got our pints in Buck Mulligan’s bar and i opted for a pint of North Star Guinness. I enjoyed the pint and it went down very well. Another member of the group had this pint as well. The bar itself was not overly busy but there was a good crowd inside. I was impressed with the decor and we headed out to the lounge with the pints. This area is very comfortable with a big seating area and relaxing couches. When we arrived at the hotel we noticed the Australian rugby team relaxing in the Lobby lounge. They were nice enough to sign autographs for anyone who wanted them.
The toilets were located just off the lobby and were in pristine condition it has to be said. there was even a television in the gents which is a first for me. They are big toilets and are very well maintained. There was a good crowd in the bar for the rugby match on Sunday and i only caught the last few minutes myself. I was at a meal in the conference room and have to say that was impressive. The Burlington is an exclusive hotel and i had an enjoyable stay.

Final comment: Both Buck Mulligan’s Bar and The Lobby Lounge were impressive.
I recently headed into The Thirsty Scholar on The Western Road. I had been in there a good few times when i was in first year in college but that was about 6 or 7 years ago. I have always associated it as being a student pub and i think most people are of this view. It was a Saturday night when i headed in and it was near closing time. The pub was emptying out at this stage but there was still a crowd inside. The girl at the bar was particularly friendly, maybe because her shift was nearing an end or maybe she was just a nice girl. We got a seat and i took in the surroundings. As far as i could remember not all that much has changed. It is quite a big pub that can get very busy.
The toilets were messy when i checked them on the night. We were only in the pub a short time as our lift arrived shortly after we went in but i have to say that i enjoyed re-visiting The Thirsty Scholar. I had some great nights in there in the past and the trip back brought back a lot of happy memories. I came across their website and its www.thethirsty.com. Check it out.

Final comment: The Thirsty Scholars location close to UCC certainly brings in a big student trade.
We headed into Ruby Tuesdays recently on a night out in the city. It was formerly The District and before that was The Morgue before that as far as i know. I reviewed The District before and it appears that not too many changes have been made to the interior of the pub. I was served by a very cheery and efficient bar man and sat across from the bar. It was quite busy inside and there was good music playing. I saw an advert where this pub has put a freeze on its prices for drink. I was impressed with the poster and the prices even though i cannot remember fully what they all were. The pint of Murphy’s i had was a very good one. I am not sure how long this bar has had this name but it is a grand spot for a drink, only a short stroll from Cork’s biggest night clubs.
It is a long narrow pub with the bar on the right going down. I checked the toilets and the gents is small but was in good condition on the night in question. I enjoyed heading in and would head back for another pint here.
