Our local pub in Carrigaline has been sold to a local business man. Finbarr and Colette Cogan owned the pub for a long time and it was a sad day for me personally when the doors shut. Apparently it is reopening under the new owners this Thursday. I have heard that there are big plans for the building. I can imagine it being turned into a very trendy upmarket bar. If being honest i liked the way Cogans was quiet and you would always get a seat and the regulars always had a word or two to say. Finbarr and Colette will be missed by us along with Martin and Margaret behind the bar. A lot of happy times were spent by me and my friends here and we will always have the memories.

We were in London recently visiting my uncle and his family and following dinner we headed to The Duke Of York pub near Victoria station. There was a good crowd of people inside when we headed in. There were no seats available but after about 15 minutes some people left and we sat down. It is quite a small pub and is comfortable. I noticed a games machine and a few tv’s around. It appeared to me to be a typical traditional English pub. The first drinks that i ordered were a pint of Stella Artois and a glass of white wine for Jen. It came to around 7 pounds 50 pence. The one thing that i was really aware of was the smoke circulating in the pub. Four years ago i probably wouldn’t have taken any notice of it but since the smoking ban came in here, it was strange people smoking in a pub. The next pint i tried was John Smith’s. I had seen all the advertisments for this drink but had never actually tried it. This pint and a glass of white wine came to 6 pounds and 40 pence. If being honest it was like drinking a pint of flat Smithwicks. The last drink that i tried was a local London brew called London Pride. This was a very enjoyable drink and it was nice to try a drink that i hadn’t heard of.
The toilets were only ok to be honest. I wasn’t overly impressed with them. There was two cubicles available but they weren’t in the best of condition. For some strange reason there was coat hangers in the toilet. Jen said that there was no toilet roll in the ladies toilet. There is a restaurant up stairs and they were serving bar food that looked quite nice. We spent a good two hours in this pub and i have to say that my overall impressions were positive. The bar staff were very efficient and appeared friendly. It suited us to have a few drinks in this pub due to its close proximity to Victoria station. Check it out if you are in the area.

Final comment: The Duke Of York pub was a nice place to stop off for a few pints and was very welcoming to us tourists!
We were at a race night last Thursday night in aid of Outreach Moldova. I spent 6 weeks in the orphanage where this charity is associated. It was four years ago but remains a life changing experience. The race night was good fun and we used the booklet to advertise this website. This was our first time advertising the site to the public. More reviews to come very soon!
