I read in the paper that O’ Flaherty’s bar on Parnell Place has closed its doors for good. It is to be replaced with apartments. This is a most common occurance these days. Also i heard unconfirmed rumours that Cubiculo on Drawbridge street is closing down.
The first reviews that haven’t been completed by myself or Ryan are up on the site. I don’t know who the authors are but it is great to get others involved. Hopefully more people will consider doing this as it is a way to get your thoughts and opinions on different pubs to a world wide audience. Thanks ‘volvic’ and ‘drink’!!
Loads of pubs seem to be shutting down or been sold these days. The Local in Innishannon is been sold, as far as i know with its license for 500,000.
Same reason lots of petrol stations are closing down I suppose… The money the land will fetch is worth more than the business. Hooray, more frigging apartments!
I think most of us worked in a Bar at some stage. Do you remember the hard work, late nights, cleaning up after other people? It was work. If a publican is perhaps aging, tiring, seeing his profits decline due to off-licences can we blame him for taking the EUR 250,000 (or whatever the figure is) and taking it easy? Who here would continue getting up at 8am and going to work given the chance to take a lump sum and live the life or Riley?
