we visited Nancys on the 12.8.2011, we enjoyed it very much , the Guinness was great , great music . we stayed for hours , next day we decided to go out late , we left hotel room at ten went straight to nancys by taxi . we got out of taxi went to door and bouncer said you have enough tonight , he wouldnt listen i tried to explain we just left our hotel room no drink in us but he just brushed us aside to let girls in wearing mini skirts and they were faling around the place . my wife and friends were offended , we were never refused anywhere in our life . we travelled from kildare

I plan to visit Limerick(I’m from the US) the last four days of August. I’d like to bring my fiddle. Are there any Irish trad sessions at Nancy’s where visitors may join in?

Nancy’s is a good spot but like some of the above comment’s the only problem I would have is the bouncers on power trip’s! Remember these are paying customers & word spread’s.. albeit they are no where near as bad as Smyth’s bouncers who are proberbly the worst in Munster, Tony E & Matt & co are smashing people though & I suggest anyone who has a problem talk to them like I had to do one time a few years back, after Smyth’s you have this clown in Flannery’s he is early 20′s he has a nasty attitude problem. Simon Moynihan was the best bouncer I’ve seen in Limerick. Earnie Shaver’s who was the bouncer in my local Yatsees in Birkenhead was the best I’ve ever seen, never saw the man without a smile, he would bow & open the door for you on the way in…PS For those who don’t know who Earnie Shaver’s is? He put Mohammed Ali on his ass one time & is regarded by Mike Tyson Larry Holmes & George Foreman aswell as Ali as the hardest punching heavyweight of all time!!!! But di he datnd there acting all tough chewing bubblegum?? No because he did’nt have to the man had class.

FIRST TIME I HAD A DRINK IN NANCYS WAS IN 1974 WHEN I WAS 20.I WAS IN THE THEN LOUNGE ON MY OWN LISTENNING TO TEN CC IM NOT IN LOVE.NANCY CAME OVER TO ME AND ASKED ME HOW OLD I WAS EVEN THOUGH I LIVED IN THE SAME STREET JUST A FEW DOORS DOWN FROM THE PUB.SHE DID NOT KNOW ME.WHEN SHE HEARD MY NAME SHE KNEW WHO I WAS.SHE QUIZZED ME ABOUT MY OCCOUPATION ETC ETC.FROM THEN ON I WAS A REGULAR IN THAT PUB FROM 1970 TO1980.I SPENT A LOT OF MONEY THERE. NOT A MICKEY MOUSE DRINKER AS DONAL WILL KNOW AND AINE AND DEIRDRE.I USED TO DRINK IN THE BAILEY AT THE TIME AND JOE MALONES WHICH WEE THE PLACES TO BE AT THE TIME.THE REASON I CHOOSE NANCYS WAS I GOT A JOB TEACHING MUSIC.I HAD TO CHANGE MY SOCIAL LIFE.I ENCOURAGED MY MUSIC FRIENDS TO DRINK IN NANCYS AND THEY ALL DID.NANCY HAD A POLICV AT THE TIME THAT WOMEN SHOULD ONLY BE SERVED HALF PINTS AND KISSING WAS TOTALLY OUT OF ORDER.SHE WAS TRYING TO COPY MA HOGANS PUB IN CATHERINE STREET WHICH HAD A STRICT REGIME UNLESS HER SON WAS SERVING.THE AGE GROUP FOR NANCYS AT THE TIME WOULD BE 30 UPWARDS.YOU CAN SEE HOW SURPRISED SHE WAS WHEN I CALLED IN FOR A DRINK.BUT MY COLLEAUGESBLENDED IN WITH EVERYBODY AND EVERY KNEW ONE ANOTHER AND BECAME GOOD FRIENDS.WE SAW NEW BIRTHS AND DEATHS/WE MOURNED THE PASSING OF A LOVED BARMAN NOEL PIPER WHO WAS MURDERED SAVIGALLY BEATEN TO DEATH ON HIS WAY HOME FROM WORK NOT AT NANCYS AT THE TIME BECAUSE HE LEFT.I HAVE FON MEMORIES OF NANCYS HUSBAND DAN WHO USED TO COME DOWN STAIRS HALF PISSED AND PLAY A CHEAP VIOLIN OUT OF TUNE/30 TO 40 PEOLE WOULD FILL THE BAR AT THAT TIME.ANOTHER MEMORY OF NANCY IS SHE ALLWAYS GAVE FLOWERS TO THE LOCAL CHURCH ONSUNDAY WITHOUT FAIL.I LIVE IN THE UK NOW NOT MY CHOICE BUT I WONDER WHAT DAN MULCAHY WOULD MAKE OF IT ALL .I DONT WANT TO THINK ABOUT IT.GOOD LOOK TO NANCYS NOW.GOD BE WITH THE OLD DAYS.

Got to agree with the previous poster. Bar staff and security are arrogant and ignorant.Overrated bar full of its own importance. Avoid it and give your business to a bar where you’ll be appreciated.

The most unfriendly place I’ve visited in LImerick city. The owners obviously have far too much money and don’t need to attract any new customers. On a recent trip to Limerick I was refused entry because I was too drunk. I’m not the world’s greatest drinker but having only consumed three pints of beer over the course of as many hours that evening I was anything but drunk.
My friend was already inside and had ordered drinks but the Mr. Security on the door had other opinions.
I have never been refused entry to a bar n my life and I have travelled all over the world and been in much more up- market places than this.
Avoid avoid avoid

I was in Nancys last night, great night. One thing ruined it for me though & that was the bouncers walking around on their power trips. I was dancing like everyone else & this bouncer comes up to me & says “If you don’t stop, you’re out”! For what, dancing? We were having the craic and then we were warned again by two bouncers. Take a look at your CCTV and you’ll see we did nothing wrong. Great place but you have to tell your bouncer staff to get off their high-horses and show the paying customers a bit of respect!
