The Deacon Bar

The last pub that we visited on our night out in Tralee Co, Kerry was The Deacon Bar. The bar is on Castle Street in the town in the Benners Hotel. There was a guy on the door on the way in and he was friendly. I ordered a pint of Guinness and a Bulmers draught and we were served very efficiently. I only drank half the pint even though it was perfectly fine. I had just had my fill for the night. It was quiet in this bar when we headed in. It was at closing time and and also it was a Monday night. It appeared to be a very chilled out bar with very nice and modern decor.

The toilets were extremely impressive. They are a good size and were in excellent condition when i saw them. There is a also a night club as part of this venue. Its called the syndicate Rooms and the pub was advertising that it has Irelands only glass dancefloor so that could certainly be fun! They have a website that i found at www.bennershoteltralee.ie

Toilet rating: 8.5/10
Pint rating: 7/10
Overall rating: 7/10

Final comment: Even though it was quiet when we went in i would say that this pub and nightclub get very busy at the weekends. This place is definately worth a look.

Hennessy’s Bar

Next on our trip around Tralee’s bars was Hennessy’s. It was busy when we walked inside. This pub is very big and there is a couple of sections. We managed to get a seat across from the bar. The pint of Guinness that i had was a good one and no complaints there. It was rag week in Tralee when we headed into this pub and you could tell that the pub was doing well with the students. There is a juke box available in the bar and also a games machine. There is ample seating to cater for a big crowd.

There is a smoking area available to patrons. The toilets were in very good condition when checked. It was good fun visitng this pub and it had a very lively atmosphere on the night that we headed in. I noticed that above the bar there are the names of loads of different beers. All in all this is a very decent pub that is quite spacious and it was an enjoyable visit.

Toilet rating: 7.5/10
Pint rating: 7/10
Overall rating: 7.5/10

Final comment: Hennessy’s Bar in Tralee is one to check out.

The Glen

While we were out in Tralee, The Glen bar was the next one we visited. It is a very big pub with two sections. The bar itself is on the left hand side as you walk in. Myself and Adrian went into the back section when there are two pool tables available. There were people playing on one of them and we used the other. The bar man was efficient and friendly in his service and the pint of Guinness was very good. It was quiet in there when we headed but it was a week night.

The gents toilets are small but were in good condition when checked. It was an enjoyable visit to a nice pub. Tralee has so many bars on offer and this is another good example.

Toilet rating: 6.5/10
Pint rating: 7/10
Overall rating: 7/10

Final comment: My brother had has been in this pub before and he said that there is live music there on occasions so that may be worth checking out.

The Rovers Return

No not in Weatherfield but actually in Tralee Co. Kerry. The Rovers Return is a pub that we visited on our recent night out in the town. When we walked in we noticed a small pub with two men sitting at the bar and a very friendly bar man serving. There is some seating on the left as you go in and there is a pool table at the back of the bar. A pint of Guinness and a pint of draught Bulmers were ordered and they both went down very well and were good pints. There was no sign of Betty or any hot pots what so ever!

We had a few games of pool on the table that costs 1 euro a game and enjoyed it. The gents toilets that i saw are very small but they were in quite good condition. This pub is not the most popular in Tralee but for the famous pub name that it has it is certainly worth a visit. We let the bar man know we were from Munster pubs and gave him one of our cards.

Toilet rating: 6/10
Pint rating: 7.5/10
Overall rating: 7/10

Final comment: The Rovers Return pub in Tralee is a far cry from its name sake in Coronation Street but it is one that we both enjoyed.

Sean Ogs

The next pub that we visited while in Tralee was Sean Ogs bar on Bridge street. In chalk outside the door of this pub was written ‘The best pub in Tralee’. There was a friendly black dog blocking the entrance to the pub so we had to step over him/her to gain entry. The first thing i noticed on heading in was that there was some event taking place. There was a card game on and the bar man was getting people to pick out cards on coming in. The man behind the bar was one of the friendliest guys i have come across for a while in any pub. I don’t know his name but i think he deserves a mention as he made us feel very welcome. The pint of Guinness that i had was very good and couldn’t complain about it.

The toilets were in good condition when checked and the cubicle there is very big. I saw that Sean Ogs is also a B+B and i checked out their website and it is quite reasonable to stay there. There was a good crowd in this bar and it appeared that it is very popular with locals and certainly welcomes strangers that want to pop in for a pint. Check out their website @ www.sean-ogs.com

Toilet rating: 7/10
Pint rating: 7.5/10
Overall rating: 7.5/10

Final comment: Sean Ogs is a fine pub in the heart of Tralee.

Willie Darcy’s

The next pub we frequented on our visit to Tralee’s pubs was Willie Darcy’s. As you walk into this pub there is a nice heated smoking area looking out onto the square. This is a very small pub and was busy when we went in. We managed to get a seat and a Guinness and a pint of draught Bulmers was ordered. I have to say that the pint of Guinness was excellent and went down very well. I did notice that there was a good few others enjoying pints of the black stuff as well. The bar man was friendly and efficient in his service. One of the features inside this pub is the wooden kayak hanging above the bar. There are also several wine bottles acting as candle holders and covered in wax.

The toilets are quite small and needed attention when i saw them. To be fair a member of staff did just that and after being seen by my brother the toilets were cleaned. I really enjoyed this pub as it had a very good atmosphere and there was a good mixture of people inside. Certainly one to check out if in Tralee.

Toilet rating: 6.5/10
Pint rating: 8/10
Overall rating: 8/10

Final comment: Willie Darcy’s is a little gem of a pub.

Bailys Corner

I very recently spent a night down in Tralee, Co Kerry visiting my brother who is down there for six months. I revisited the Aquadome while i was there and it was fun. We decided to check out the night life in Tralee and started off in Bailys Corner. You’l find this pub on Ashe street in the town. It is not a huge pub and i felt it to be very cosy. The walls are covered with loads of interesting pictures that i spent time looking at. It was a weeknight when we headed in and it was relatively quiet. The pint of Guinness that i had wasn’t the greatest i’ve ever had but i managed to get through it all.

The toilets in this bar are small but were in good condition when checked. There is one cubicle available. There is an area outside the front door of the pub catering for smokers. This is a bar that i enjoyed visiting and would definately head back to when i am in Tralee again.

Toilet rating: 7/10
Pint rating: 6/10
Overall rating: 7/10

Final comment: Bailys Corner was well worth a visit and i would imagine that its busy at the weekends.
