The Bayswater Arms

While we were in London we visited this pub in Bayswater after a night at the Sound Of Music at the London Palladium. We got the tube to Queensway station and walked down the street and went into this pub. There was quite a few people standing outside this bar drinking on the street. I got a pint of London Pride and even though this is a small pub and was busy we managed to get a seat. London Pride is a drink i enjoyed the last time i was in London but the pint i got here wasn’t great. This pub was very lively and there was good music being played over the sound system. Jen used the ladies toilets and said they were fine. I didn’t get to check what the gents toilets were like.

We were only in this pub for a short time and found it to be fine. There was a good mixture of age groups in this bar and from the crowd inside and out it is obviously quite popular.

Pint rating: 5/10
Overall rating: 6/10

Final comment: The Bayswater Arms is a grand pub that we paid a short visit to.

The Swan

We were in England recently for a short break and we stayed at the Corus Hyde Park hotel. Right next to the hotel is The Swan. The Swan pub has seating outside catering for smokers and those wanting to have a drink outside. There was a good crowd inside on the night that we headed in. I ordered the drinks at the bar. I got a Kronnenberg and a sparking water. The pint was nice. The girl behind the bar was Australian and she had trouble understanding my accent! She was friendly though. We managed to get seats across from the bar at the front of the pub. There was one of those fruit machines in this pub which is a common sight in pubs in England. There is regular live music in this bar and they also serve food although we didn’t sample the cusine.

The toilets are located up the back of the pub and they were in good condition when i checked them. I was only in this bar for the one drink and it was pleasant for that. If you are staying at the Corus hotel or in the Lancaster Gate area then this pub is convenient.

Toilet rating: 7/10
Pint rating: 7/10
Overall rating: 6.5/10

Final comment: The Lancaster Gate tube station is only teo minutes walk from this pub.

Crane Lane Theatre

I have visited this venue a couple of times and most recently the other night. The Crane Lane Theatre is one of Cork City’s most popular night spots. It is located on Phoenix street and was formerly club one. There are bouncers at the door and when you walk in you first enter the smoking area. There have been a few occasions that i have went in to this bar and came out again because it was too packed. Last Friday night we headed in and it was quite busy but not full. We went in a around 9pm and went into the back bar. There were no seats available when we went in but some people left and we had some where for our group to sit. I have to say that the music that was played for the whole night was varied and very enjoyable. I was drinking Murphy’s for the night and all pints were generally good. On one occasion i was waiting at the bar for about 5 minutes before one of the bar staff came out from the front section. The bar staff i encountered were generally friendly and efficient. I really like the decor in this pub. You really have to go in there and see it for yourself. It is certainly the only bar of its kind in Cork.

The toilets that i used were ok. The gents is small and on occasions during the night there were queues to use the facilities but they were well kept that night. I am sure that there are other toilet facilities available but i didn’t see them. There are often gigs and other events taking place in this venue and i will most certainly be back again. This is a place that you must visit at least once if you live in Cork.

Toilet rating: 6.5/10
Pint rating: 7.5/10
Overall rating: 8/10

Final comment: There was a great atmosphere in this bar the other night. It got really busy later in the night. It’s near the GPO, check it out.

The Three Counties Bar

Myself and Jen went to the Neil Diamond concert in Dublin a few weeks ago and on the way back home we stopped in The Three counties bar in Kilbehenny. It was a Sunday afternoon around 2pm and we just popped in for the one drink. There is plenty parking available on the road outside of this pub and it is on the main Cork to Dublin road, not far from Mitchelstown. There is a bar area at the front and i noticed a dart board. Also behind the bar are the county flags of Cork, Limerick and Tipperary. I ordered a pint of Guinness and a glass of diet 7up and we sat just across from the bar. The Guinness was a very good pint and went down well. The lady behind the bar was very nice and so were the many people inside who all had a ‘hello’ for us. There was Irish music playing on their sound system and all the lads at the bar were singing away! Even though we visited this pub in the early afternoon there was still a very good atmosphere.

I had a look out the back of the pub and there is a big area out here as well. There is a pool table available in this section. I checked the toilets and there is one cubicle and a urinal available and they were in good condition. This pub does really well with the locals and i know this because i know some people living in the area. I think it has a unique location being on the border of three counties Cork, Limerick and Tipperary. I think that the pub is actually in Co Limerick although i am open to correction on that. I left one of our ‘Munster Pubs’ cards behind in the pub after me. I really enjoyed my visit to this pub and if your passing by it’s definately worth a look.

Final comment: The Three Counties bar is a real country bar where you will be welcomed by the locals.
