Pub of the week 4

My pub of the week is Nancy Blakes pub in Limerick city as it is by far the most commented on pub we have reviewed.

Hogans

There is a pub of the same name already reviewed in Carrigaline, Co Cork but this Hogans is located on South Great Georges street in Dublin city centre. We headed in here at about 11pm last Saturday night and stood just inside the door before aquiring a table. This is quite a big pub and to be fair the bar staff were very efficient even though it was very busy. I was never waiting too long to be served at the bar. The music being played was good and there was a mixture of ages in the pub when we were there. The pints of Guinness that were consumed over the course of the night were very decent and i could have no complaints about them.

The toilets are located at the basement level and there is also another bar down there. The toilets were in relatively good condition when i checked them and they were definately monitored and maintained by the staff. There was certainly more people standing in this pub than sitting from what i could see. It is a late bar and we left at around 1:30am and it was still as busy as when we went in.

Toilet rating: 7/10
Pint rating: 7.5/10
Overall rating: 7.5/10

Final comment: Hogans is a fine pub that is very popular. I would head back here when in Dublin. Check it out.

Pub with no name (Snail Bar)

Myself and Jen took a rare trip away with just the two of us at the weekend. We headed up to Dublin and stayed near Heuston station. We went for a very nice meal in Odessa at Dame Court with Ryan and Julie. Afterwards we walked to this pub and headed inside. All that is outside is a picture of a snail but there is no name above the door. We walked up the stairs and into the pub. It was jam packed inside. I managed to get to the bar just inside the door and got served relatively quickly by the extremely busy but calm looking bar man. The pint of Guinness i had was surprisingly very good. We were in one room and walked into another but it was too busy there so we managed to find limited standing room in another area.

The music being played was extremely loud and it was was difficult to have a chat. It is most certainly a popular pub judging by the steady stream of people coming in while we were there. Personally i didn’t find it that appealing as it was just too packed and uncomfortable. I didn’t get to see the gents toilets facilities so can’t comment on them. Overall not a bad pub to visit.

Pint rating: 7.5/10
Overall rating: 6.5/10

Final comment: I saw another bar serving drinks in another area of the pub. This is definately a popular Dublin city centre bar.
